The people of this small, remote village in southern India live without electricity and tea is a luxury they live without. Living on forest fruits and vegetables, the villagers have no access to even basic medical care. The men of this village spend their days and nights trying to find more water for their land, just so that their children can continue living on the subsistence diet – but there isn't any more water – either in the ground or beneath it! So, they plant somewhere else next year – again with no guarantee of ever finding enough water. With such a small population, women do most of the work and they spin the fibers from "jangli" (the local plant used for making ropes, bedding and utensils), or make mats from it too. They weave jute bags and mats which they sell in a nearby town, while the men of the village farm their land. The villagers have relatively high hopes that a new borewell drilled on their land would finally give them some relief from their poverty. The villagers have high hopes that this new borewell will provide them with enough drinking water to allow them to survive another year, but when opened it turns out to be useless for drinking water. The news of the borewell's uselessness shatters the villagers' hopes, and they begin to suspect that the greedy contractors of nature working on their land are somehow responsible. But they can't prove any of it – their suspicions lie only in their minds... After a few months pass, a group led by Shankar (Nassar) and his women folk enter the village and announce that they would like to help the village people, and that they can provide them with water. One by one, all of the villagers agree to receive water from these strangers – and with no hesitation – which is a revelation in itself... But little do they know that this is a plan, and that these people will actually destroy their village and take over. It seems like these strangers are the only hope for the villagers now – but where does that lead to? They will soon find out that this is a sinking ship. And Shankar will be the one who sends them all to their watery graves... The theme of "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" was based on the real-life story of legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh, who narrated his rags to riches tale in the "Feel India" campaign by United Colors of Benetton. The story portrays a journey of a young man from a small village called Nadiad, in the state of Gujarat. It takes place in the 1960s, a time when India was going through a struggle for independence and self-rule. The story starts with the death of his mother due to poor medical facilities and hygiene, which makes him decide to give up athletics. He joins the Indian Army as an officer and pursues his dreams of being rich. After two decades, he returns to his village but is estranged from his family who have not forgiven him for leaving them behind. cfa1e77820
